Best of Especially For Youth

Saturday I got to go to the Best of Especially For Youth. The first speaker (I never caught his name) talked about how we can get passed Mental Problems and how to "Win Life". It was really interesting and gave me some tips on empowering myself, learning to laugh at myself, loving myself, not overwhelming myself, and being myself. He quoted the scripture 1 Nephi 17: 20-21. It talked about how Lamen and Lemuel hated the experience they had in the wilderness and how they complained continuously. But then he talked about 1 Nephi 17: 2-3 and 1 Nephi 5: 27 and those talked about Nephi, who was in the same situation as Lamen and Lemuel, that him and his other brothers were happy in the wilderness and they were doing fine. As you can tell by these to different opinions that your attitude effects how you feel about a certain situation. The second speaker, Chad Kirby, talked to us about how we're all different but we're all God's children. He taught us about Mosiah 4:30 and how our thoughts can turn into your words, and how your words can turn into your deeds. The last speaker, Matthew Richardson, talked to us about our feelings. He started off in such a funny way, telling us about how some of his seminary students once sang this song "Feelings" and were singing and dancing to it. He could really tell that they had practiced this routine. He made a good point that feelings can influence us to do things we don't usually do. Such as fear. It makes us jump and scream and hide behind things. Usually you don't do this on an everyday basis right? He also told us about the scripture Matthew 16: 13-17 which talked about how Jesus asked his apostles what people thought about him. Then he asked what they thought about them, and one bore his testimony and told him about how he knows he was the savior and God's son. He also read the quote that said "The scriptures generally use the word voice which doesn't exactly fit. You may feel it instead of hearing it."

Sundance

On Friday I had the chance to go snowboarding. It was my very first time too. My first time up, I rode with my friend Brylee. We were freaking out all the way up and we HATED it! But once we got off we were better. But then I started down and it was so hard! It took me literally two hours to go down the mountain the first time. And towards the end, I took off my snowboard and sledded down. Then my friend Colton made me go down a second time. So I got up there and I did really well down the first hill, but then I got fed up with it and strapped out of my snowboard and again sledded down the rest of the mountain. Except this time it slid out from under me and Colton had to go down and get it. Gladly for me it didn't hit anyone and he was able to go get it. But since I was sore and tired I quit for the day! Then I sat in the lodge for at least 4 hours with Corbin and Mailey. That was my first and most likely only time snowboarding.

Marco Island, Florida vs. Wales, Utah

This past week Lisa and Roger went to Marco Island. It was 80 degrees most days, with tanning and sitting on the beach everyday. But while they did this, Lexes, Cameron, Whitney and Kyle were stuck in Wales. It was 10-20 degrees with homework and studying everyday. Lisa got to go seashell hunting on the beach while Gretta went momma hunting in the house. Lisa and Roger had a week together having fun, going out to dinner, and meeting new people. Whitney and Kyle had a week together with the kids, having fun playing mom and dad. This was our fabulous time, compared to each other. I think you can tell you had the better time.
